Urijah Faber interview

Urijah Faber is now enjoying his life after the cage. Even though he retired as a fighter a few months ago, is work as Team Alpha Male coach continues. In an interview for The MMA Hour, Faber spoke about the upcoming bantamweight title bout between challenger TJ Dillashaw and champion Cody Garbrandt.

Faber told Ariel Helwani he is conviced that Cody Garbrandt has more power than Dillashaw, which is why he believes the champion will eventually land that punch that will put Dillashaw away.

“I think it’ll probably be a knockout, just because Cody hits hard,” Faber said. “We’ve seen it in his fights, we’ve seen it in the room. He’s got a history. T.J.’s also a heavy hitter, but not like Cody. They’re going to be in a gun fight.”

Although ‘The California Kid’ is expecting Garbrandt to KO TJ, he also believes it will take him some time to do so. According to him, there will be plenty of action before Cody can finish the fight.

“I don’t think it’ll be that early — I don’t know when, you can’t predict that stuff,” he told Ariel Helwani. “But, I know it’s going to be a very tough fight. I’ve seen T.J. and some of his stuff, and he’s already freaking out like a wild man, as he tends to do. It’s going to be a competitive fight, and Cody’s going to get it.”

A couple years ago, one of the main coaces at Team Alpha Male, Duane Ludwig, decided to leave the team to start his own gym in Colorado. TJ Dillashaw found himself between a rock and a hard place by having to choose either to side with Faber or Ludwig. In the end, TJ preferred to go to Colorado, becoming Garbrandt’s enemy ever since.

The fight between Cody Garbrandt and TK Dillashaw is set to take place in July of this year, as a part of the activities of International Fight Week in Las Vegas, Nevada.
