Floyd MGM

The so-called “fight everyone wants to see” continues to advance towards becoming a reality, or so it seems. This Monday, Floyd Mayweather Jr., officially reserved de MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for August 26th. The date has been made official by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in its official calendar of events.

As we all know, the MGM has been Floyd’s home for many years. He didn’t fight anywhere else in his latest years in pro boxing. Sources indicate that Floyd and the UFC are very close to reaching an agreement. One of the important things to decide was the date of the bout, as the promotion wanted it to be in August at the latest.

There still aren’t enough details regarding the matter, but it would look like the intention is to have the fight before the biggest fight in boxing this year: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Gennady ‘Triple G’ Golovkin. The fight promoted by Golden Boy Productions is bound to take place in September, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. If Oscar De La Hoya has already been trying to boycott McGregor vs. Mayweather this could push him over the edge.

Although many experts, fans and athletes of both boxing and MMA have expressed how pointless the fight is, they have also accepted they would watch it. Many believe it would break all the PPV records, regardless the quality of the actual fight.
