LFA 15 cover fighting

With no action on the major MMA promotions over the weekend, all eyes turned to LFA 15. The event took place at the FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma. In a card of seven fights the main event was a battle to crown the new heavyweight champion.

The card was full of action since the first bout. Chibwikem Onyenegechea came out determined to finish Stephen Skoch as fast as possible. It was a dominant performance for as long as the fight lasted. Onyenegechea landed a powerful straight right that wobbled Skoch. He immediatly followed his opponent to the cage and continued beating him with punches and knees. Once on the ground the fight should have been stopped but the referee allowed it to continue as Stephen was able to get back up. Back on their feet Onyenegechea just destroyed his opponent with beautiful knees from the clinch. With the win Chibwikem improves to 5-0 and has won all his fights by KO/TKO.

Later in the evening in a lightweight fight Dan Moret crowned a one-sided bout with a beautiful arm triangle just has the final bell was about to sound. In the video below you can see his opponent Derrick Adams desperately tapping. The fight ended at 4:59 of the final round, but it’s clear Adams couldn’t survive a second longer.

The following fight may have lasted just a little over 2 minutes but it was sure exciting to watch. Welterweight Manny Meraz connected Braden Smith early in the fight and sent him to the canvas. He then tried to ground and pound him but Smith managed to survive. Braden waited for his opportunity and put Meraz on a D’Arce choke to finish the fight. This was Braden’s fourth consecutive submission victory and once again he proved why he’s a submission wiz.

Finally, in the main event of LFA 15, Richard Odoms earned the heavyweight by title with a beautiful kimura that forced Jared Vanderaa to tap.

42-year-old veteran Odoms defeated all odds and handed 25-year-old Vanderaa the first loss of his career. The fight wasn’t beautiful as it was mostly clinches and dirty boxing against the cage. But half way through the fifth round Odoms surprised everyone with a brilliant movement to sink a kimura and become the first heavyweight champion in the history of Legacy Fighting Alliance.
