Jon Jones Kick cover

The main event of UFC 214: Cormier vs. Jones 2 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California did not disappoint. Jon Jones came back to claim what has been rightfully his since he won the belt back in 2011. A perfectly timed head kick marked the beginning of the end for Cormier. After that, Jones put him away with ground and pound while John McCarthy witnessed Cormier take a few unnecessary punches to the head.

In the first round Jon Jones came out determined to push the pace. Cormier responded with some nice punches from the clinch, knocking Jones’ mouthpiece with an uppercut. Jon scored a takedown but was unable to control and Cormier got up immediatly. After that, he was in control of the round, landing a solid knee to the body and a couple of oblique kicks.

For the second, Cormier seemed to get right back to the fight and landed good shots. An accidental headbutt opened a cut on Cormier, a few moments later he took a kick to the groin but kept his concentration and continued to move forward. ‘DC’ started to land more of his combinations and was also able to score a takedown with a well-timed trip. Jones got back up and Cormier managed to land a knee to the body and moments later a solid elbow.

In the third, just when it looked like Cormier might actually have a chance, Jones found the time and the place for a perfect head kick that made Cormier’s legs shake all over the place. The former champ identifies the moment, it’s time to go in for the kill. He rushed forward trying to trip Cormier but missed, then he tried hitting him with a flying knee but missed as well. Cormier’s legs are still shaking and he went to the ground. Jones was all over him and the fight should have been stopped as Cormier’s head landed on the canvas, but ‘Big’ John gave him ‘the champion’s chance’ and allowed Jones to punch him 5 more times before stopping the fight.

Then, in a WWE moment that did not look prepared at all, Jones called out Brock Lesnar.
